News update: 5th January 2014 - The good news: After our rhino day in December, we finally transferred the amount of £410 into the account of the Kariega Foundation Trust Fund. Kariega can be visited on the following link: - this is the home of Thandi! Thandi was poached brutally, but she's a brave rhino and survived. Read about her 'ordeal' on this link.

946 rhinos poached in South Africa only,
573 in the Kruger National Park - the oldest and largest National Park in South Africa and in Africa.

We had an exciting Rhino Day in school on Wednesday 18th December 2013
In all classes, Teachers planned different Literacy and other activities throughout the day for their children. All children also had a word search for their age group. In Y5 we read the first chapter of '
' - a novel about the poaching of rhinos and then we designed a new book cover for the book. We also made some rhino biscuits and some of us enjoyed the story telling with Nursery children. Others from our class made their own puppets and used it in their story telling with Nursery children.
Y3s turned their Teachers into rhinos during their Literacy lessons on writing instructions! Y4s created leaflets on rhinos and poaching. Everybody loved to learn more about the rhinos.
The badges were very popular! Children designed and made their own badges to show how they support and care for the rhinos.
Our PE Teacher was in charge of the obstacle course. Children worked as a team to complete different activities with Mr Bath on the pitch. They wore their family colours and were very competitive!
Different colour rhino stickers were given out to everybody after the completion of any first activity.
Clay rhinos - a crash of rhinos - by Y6!
Some of our badges. Do you like our rhino badges? We do!
Before the obstacle course - the rhino-run.

Not a surprise anymore! 16th November - 850 rhinos poached.
Update: 7th November 2013: 825 rhinos poached.
We made our own rhinos in the year group.
Y5V Class Assembly - our Campaign poster - to save the rhinos. Learn to persuade.
Zindzi made it to our termly glossy school news letter, which goes to all Parents!

Annpreet created a Wildlife-Rhino information document.
Bye, Zindzi!!! We will miss you! And Zindzi is off to another UK school.
We updated Zindzi's journal with all our activities!
During our Class Assembly on Friday 11th October 2013, we also campaigned for the rhinos. This is one of our posters. LOVE and COMPASSION is what we ask. Our Rhinos are in DEEP DEEP trouble!! The next three pictures were part of the campaign-shouty group's posters.
Update: Monday 14th November 2013
Numeracy and selling of rhino key rings!
MORE to follow the rest of the year!! We are now in the process of selling rhino-head key rings! We are going to have a rhino day in school where Y5s will have stalls and sell lots more key rings and raise awareness amongst the whole school community - all Parents included - the day will be linked to Numeracy and we can't wait for our Rhino Day!
We want everybody to show LOVE and COMPASSION to the rhinos.
Update: 13/10/2013 - In Y5 we made our own stuffed rhinos in class. Enjoy the video where we all think about how Zindzi has touched our lives.
The following photos are from Y2 - They had a surprise visit from Zindzi and they also want to protect the rhinos!
Save the rhinos! Their horns are not for medicine. Their horns are like your finger nails.
Bottom photo: Y1's had Zindzi to help them in their learning! Zindzi LOVED it! Enjoy their pictures.
ICT and Y5V
Y5V practised our skills in Publisher when creating these rhino fact files. Enjoy some our fact files, which is going to go up on display across the school with our decorated rhinos.
Zindzi shared some of our learning this week. Enjoy the video - we created fact files to go up around our school in EVERY room with the decorated little rhinos you can see on this page. Zindzi briefly visited some Y6 pupils, busy learning all sorts of new things in groups. We hope you will enjoy our video!
5/10/2013 - 730 poached
Sayna and Jasneet made their own rhinos during the August Summer holiday! They are now also Zindzi's cousins.

Update: 1st September 2013 - This is Navkiran's rhino, which she made all by herself - with little help from her mum - during the summer holiday. She's written some facts on the rhino and beg everybody to save our precious rhinos. Well done to Navkiran! This is wonderful to know you've done it all by yourself!
Our new lovelies in Y5 had homework over the Summer holiday. Their task was to collect about 15 facts on rhinos. They can present it in any way. Please enjoy these two power point presentations, really lovely work done by these two girls.

These picture cards, Zindzi with African patterns, is to welcome Zindzi at our school. In each class we will be having these little picture cards with a similar size Rhino-fact file to share our research on Rhinos with the rest of the school. We look forward to more exciting projects around Zindzi and can't wait to have Zindzi with us!
